The way forwardPosted by Benticore on March 19th, 2008

As I faithfully wait for my wife to finish transferring our various blogs and what not from old, crap server to new, non-crap servers, I’ve decided, in my inestimable wisdom, to post.
Close your mouth, Dwight. Yeah, I’m posting. Yes, its halfway into March. Yes, I suck. But how does one climb out of the cold, dark hole of blog negligence? One post at a freakin’ time.
Firstly, some updates.
Second verse, completely different from the first…
So you probably know that I got a new job last month and am deliriously happy so far, not only with the people I work with but with the work that I am doing. We prayed as a family for me to get a break like this, to get a chance for me to really move forward in my current career and start to provide a better life for my family. That the prayer was answered is a wonderful thing. Exactly HOW it was answered makes me scratch my head and grin ruefully.
So, it turns out that the company I am at, not only do I know both the founder and the current VP, but I actually went to highschool with them! My first day, at orientation, they were going over the history of the location I currently work at and how it had started from humble beginning before being sold to the larger company I now work for. You’ve heard the Garage Startup Internet Company Success Story hundreds of times I’m sure. But when the mentioned the name of the founder, my eyes quickly refocused. “Did this *John Smith* go to MICDS?” My answer was a quick nod and a point to a large picture of him and his wife, smiling beatifically down on me. Yeah, thats the same John Smith who graduated a year before me, played on the basketball team, and who I saw scrimmaging in the gym all the time. Not friends, per say, but friendly acquaintances, definitely.
On my second day, the VP whom I had known from Highschool came down to shake my hand and say hello. He seemed genuinely glad to see me and though I had figured it had been damn near 13 years! No way these people would remember who I was, Right? Wrong. He tells me that he say my name on the new hire list and said, “Hell! Thats Benticore! I gotta get down there and say hello!” So much for the anonymity.
So the job itself has a lot to learn, but I’m learning it. There is a lot to do, but I’m doing it. The pay is a substantial increase and so is the opportunity to grow. So thanks for all those who helped me through the application process and prayed for me and my family as we went through the hiring uncertainty. The Benticore Fam is Movin On Up!
How’s that novel coming?
Yeah. About that. Work on Dreamrunners had come to a stop as I dealt with transferring jobs and what not, though, to be honesty, I was hopelessly lost in the Swampy Middle of my story and I needed a hard break and reset. I’m still writing, so fear not. I just gotta get my groove back.
Thats all for now. It will be easier to blog once we get our blogs move (the service we have is snail slow and frustratingly spotty). Hope everyone has a great rest of the week.
