Bad Black Movie Moments

The Underclassman

Ummm… Can you say WACK? Somebody need to tell this boy - a STOP RAPPING you are not as multi faceted as you think you are and #2. Just act in the movie - don’t be trying to executive produce and rewrite the script and all of that - nothing good can come of it, and the release of this movie proves it.

Yo! even in Robotics i’m lethal

When Pocket aces can’t save you - watch T.V or write a poem…

Well I have delayed writing this post as lately my heart just hasn’t been in it. Since we got back from LA I’ve been tired and a little sick – I think I’m just worn out – and NO I’M NOT PREGNANT. Okay now moving on. We had poker weekend this wekkend and Jerry’s dad came. Actually since the reunion we’ve spent more time with him than we had easily in the last year – which is great. He’s an aggressive poker player and a lot of fun! I really hope he comes again – Jerry III – my husband – beat me while I was holding pocket aces… looking at a 3, an 8, an 6, a Jack and a 2…no possible straight, no flush he beats me with two freakin pair! Pair of twos and pair of eights… ARGH!!! He did win for the night so – that was cool.

I don’t know if you all know but you should know so I’m telling you – The Boondocks start airing on Adult Swim on Oct 2 at 11 p.m. there was a sneak peak up at http://boondockstv.com but it is down now- how ever your girl was digging until she found what she was looking for – check this out
http://www.buzzscope.com/boondocks/boondocks_small.avi
I was cracking up- You guys just aren’t ready!
http://www.buzzscope.com/features.php?id=1067 Has a BUNCH of clips from a sneak peak -

Nationals – I wasn’t there so don’t ask me….

I hear ABQ was great – there was a little – tinny bit of controversy at the very end there but that is expected with that many poets in one place – I’m glad it was so beautiful and I am so stoked it is in AUSTIN next – I’m there – gonna buy my ticket as soon as I get the dates in my head right! I’m thinking I may take the hubby – but he’s not much on the poetry thing – and I’m not trying to do anything but O.D on poetry – no sight seeing no shopping – okay a little shopping but mostly poetry. I wanna be sick of PHAT pieces when I leave! Anyway – I heard an NPR station had broadcast the finals – I’m trying to dig up the link if they have it archived so I can listen and be wowed on my own….

*But just a note on the controversy I know nothing about- If ABQ did such a great job pulling it together and building a crowd and getting the community involved and excited – why is anyone surprised that in a “sport” where audience response counts for at least 30-50% of how a judge scores, and if locals are coming out in droves and the slam system is as flawed as the US judicial system – why are you surprised the home team won? Are we not (as an audience) encouraged to Boo and hiss, and voice our loyalties and opinions as loudly as possible? AS it stands before a single poet’s plane had touched down or van pulled up or bus found the ABG depot – they had sold HALF the finals night tickets! Which is WONDERFULLY AMAZING – but also leaves the home field advantage VERY homey. Not everyone’s Granny is as honest as mine who told me after I came in second at a slam – “you did good baby but that other boy kicked ass!” Congrats to ABQ for kicking ass! In the scoring and as a host city!

Honor our Elders

Also Katherine Dunham is trying to move back to her home in E. St. Louis and is not financial able to do so – several of her colleagues have come up with the funds to renovate the home and make it accessible – she now needs home goods and is registered at Bed bath and beyond –click here… and Linens and things – click here. I believe in doing this because how many time can you say you have the opportunity to show one of the great persons in your past in our collective history as artists thank you and we know what you did and we are grateful for your life? Ms. Dunham is 94 years old – one day, hopefully not soon, she will die and there will be hundreds of people who come to honor her life – I want to honor her now while she is still alive, so she can know that I see – and I want my daughter to see and know how we are to treat our elders.

My sister needs some prayer – please pray for her – Just pray Gods will and grace (not a sitcom) for her

The UBER BLOG!!!

Jerry just posted the longest blog he has ever posted (he says its not- okay the longest post in months) - Princess clap everyone!!!!! Go read it and he about broke down the WHOLE trip! Go ahead read it!!!

BORN in East LA!!!! I was…

Not really but We did just spend a long weekend in LA so the title almost fit! Anyway we had a really good time meeting all of Jerry’s Family members – I haven’t had the opportunity to put all the pictures up and contrary to Jerry’s beliefs I am not going to post a long detailed post about it – cause it was his family reunion and he should recap. So there!  But LA was great we spent Friday through Sunday late after noon spending quality time with his family – meeting TONS of new people, and the beautiful children. Ton and Tons of pretty babies and little children in that family. Ironically Jerry is the very last Henderson male and seeing all of those family members together kind of made it imperative that we have a son to carry on the name in a very softly mentioned way by both Jerry and his father – as if they were prepping my womb for the second inhabitant. How bout can I get a year?!?!? At the very least – a year… We got to spend some time on Santa Monica Pier with Amber- Wamber and her mom – mrs Simpson – they totally rock! And Cammy went on her first date – with Amber’s nephew – he took her on a ride in his wagon. TOO CUTE!! Anyway look to Jerry for more updates about our trip to LA- Pictures will be up tonight!

Political moment

This blog post about an report yesterday on extraordinary rendition caught my eye:

Others have suggested “high-value” detainees could be held secretly in Diego Garcia, a British-held island in the Indian Ocean that the United States rents as a strategic military base. [Link]

Can you say new vacation spot?!?! how about NO?!?!?! Hellz to the
Nizawww!!!

Torture is hardly a newcomer to the Indian Ocean. You only have to go a bit north of the atoll to see it in practice by both intelligence and garden-variety cops on the subcontinent. But has the CIA joined the party? The Toronto Star reported last month:

… intelligence analysts say Diego Garcia’s geographic isolation is now being
exploited for other, darker purposes… These prisoners are known as “ghost
detainees” or the “new disappeared,” and they’re being subjected to treatment
that makes the abuses at the military-run Abu Ghraib prison near Baghdad and
Guantanamo Bay camp in Cuba look small-time, say intelligence analysts…
Analysts say there are at least a score of unacknowledged facilities around
the world… one, they suspect, on Diego Garcia, where two navy prison ships ferry
prisoners in and out… the United Nations said it will investigate a number of
allegations from reliable sources that the U.S. is detaining terrorist suspects
in undeclared holding facilities, including on board ships believed to be in the
Indian Ocean. “Diego Garcia is an obvious place for a secret facility,” says
American defence analyst John Pike. “They want somewhere that’s difficult to
escape from, difficult to attack, not visible to prying eyes and where a lot of
other activity is going on. Diego Garcia is ideal.”
The British government
has flatly denied detainees are being held covertly on the island. When asked
last year, U.S. deputy assistant secretary of state Lawrence DiRita didn’t deny
it outright, saying only, “I don’t know. I simply don’t know.” [Link]
Diego Garcia
is a coral atoll in the Indian Ocean south of Sri Lanka. With a huge central
lagoon protected on three sides by land, it’s an equatorial paradise which could
have inspired Blue Lagoon. In
the early ’70s, the British government forcibly deported the 2,000 Iloi residents, mostly coconut
farmers, to Mauritius to make way for a military base which it leased to the
U.S.:

All I’m saying is ya’ll put him back in office not me…. But that’s to say our military officers tell the president everything that goes on - people get so bent out of shpae when you hold the president accountable - but well… damn he’s the president. And there is no way you gonna tell me he doesn’t know some shadyness is going on on that island. Now if this was some equal opportunity detention and they had a bunch of boys who look like Timmothy Mcvey, and the American taliban kid … what’s his name….John Walker, I might not feel such a sense of dred everytime they show pictures of the London bombers and they look like they could have been at the Sugarwater show Sunday, in their Polo and Gap clothes. The tag terrorist has just jumped from peanut butter brown people to all brown people, and they fail to realialise there are scores of Caucasian muslims, and scores of people who hate the U.S without a religious flag to fly, whether they be African, Asian, Middle Eastern, European , or American born. There has got to be another way. I don’t know what it is, but the current plan just isn’t working.
