Poets and stuff

So this last week or so has been filled with poets left and right for me. NACA was a week ago in ST. Louis, which meant a lot of my poetry friends were to be in the area. SO It was nice to meet people I haven’t met but talk to and admire and people who I just hadn’t seen in ages. Queen Sheba from VA came through and spent a few days. Got to see my girls for the first time in like four years. I officially have ‘the biggest knockers she ever saw’. I need to get a ribbon for my dressing mirror to that effect.

BasseyI also got to finally meet and talk to in person Bassey Ikpi. Who so very soundly FCUKING ROCKS. We’ve been eFriends for close to two years. So it was really nice to finally get to sit down across from her and talk to her. I only got to spend a few hours with her - then I took her to the airport for her flight out. Meeting her was one of those days when hours feel like minutes.
shebaQueen Sheba came in from ATL, I am working on learning how to edit the video I took of her reading, maybe I’ll get it up. It was nice to see her again, it had been years. WE got little time to talk but it was still nice to see her..Marc Marcel came through immediately

Relax - its only parenting

*this is a bit of a long post.. So long, in fact, I had to trim it into two and this one is still long.. warning you now..

I remember when I found out I was pregnant with Cammy. Jerry and I wern’t trying for a baby, but we wern’t disapointed when we found out she was coming. We knew that statistically given our track record a baby was gonna happen sooner or later and while later would have given us more time to play, sooner has its perks too.

I was genuinely happy about my pregnancy. I read every parenting book I could get my hands on, I TIVO’d every

so pretend its Feb. 14

I sent for him on a Thursday. After weeks of back and forth, I finally got up the nerve and fill out the form and entered the charge number and hit submit all at the same time.

“On a scale of one to ten,” he’d said, “I’m looking for a Q.”

It ate at me for those two weeks. Was that a typo? He couldn’t possibly have meant that literally.

But I couldn’t let it go. Me, the serial dating bohemian poet, was gonna meet somebody on the internet? No. Nobody meets someone, their somebody, on the internet.

“I’m looking for a Q.”

I put the thought away countless times. But it kept coming back, so I did too. I coughed up the

Is blue the color of sunshine

Ah this week.It has been good on so many levels, despite this blue haze I seem stuck in. I am beginning to think I got a little baby blues going on, it’s the only reason I can think of that I can’t shake this mild funk I’m in.

However life does not stop cause I’m in a funky mood.

Jerry started his new job this week. (Whoo!!Whoo!!) He was seriously like a kid

and the not so good..

I have been informed that there is some sort of issue with the scheduling at the Museum so the poetry reading has to be rescheduled.

As soon as I get more information I will give it to you guys!

I am, suprisingly enough - bummed… who knew?

So Its all to the good

Ahh..

I have been busy my internets!

I have started at my new jobby. They have no PC for me, I am usually sitting at the desk of a coworker who is out of the office for the day - that sometimes does not happen so my PC access is spotty at best. So my blogging will be spotty at best. My boss, and her boss, are both mothers so the breast feeding has gone back to being a non-issue. It is refreshing to like the people you work with, they are such a small group of women, and they are all very cool interesting characters. And I love the whole

LaLeche UNITE!

So my job is being, suddenly… difficult about my pumping at work.  We have moved to the new office in ‘Fa Fa Away’ land, and apparently it is smaller and has less space than the office we have left.  They - and when I say they I mean my second line supervisor, wants me to pump in the bathroom…

(inset cricket chirp here)

I’ll respond to that in a sec.

I pump three times a day. Including once during my lunch hour. I forgo my breaks in favor of the time I spend pumping. I am discreet. My pump sounds like a small muffled yapping yorkie, but other than that there isn’t anything I can do to make this experience any less apparent to my co-workers or supervisors. I don’t have any requirements for the space I am asked to pump in except the basics.

That it be clean, and that it be sanitary, i.e. not a bathroom.

My reasoning, if you are willing to sit and have lunch in the stall next to me, I’ll make my kids lunch in there. No takers? Well then.

Not to mention that Missouri is one of the nifty states that protects my right to “feed my child in any public or private location where the mother is otherwise authorized to be.” Last time I checked I was authorized to be at work. They gave me a badge to get in with and everything.

So you can just imagine the colorful things I would like to say in response to this resistance.

The thing that ticks me off about this is that, I’ve been pumping, with no incident at all, for the last four months - I didn’t just magically decide to breastfeed this week. But apparently conflict was in the words of Mr. Smith - “Inevitable, Mr. Anderson.” Hopefully the office transfer comes through soon and I can hopefully find - more cooperative pastures else where.
