Bald headed beauties

I have never really been afraid to shave my head. I’ve done it countless times. A good poet friend Sheba worked for upwards of five or six years with a bald head. They always spoke of strength and freedom to me. When a woman is no longer a slave to her hair and what people think of it, it is truly one of the sexiest things I have ever seen in my life.
But what if that choice is taken away from you?
GMA’s co-host Robin Roberts is my Katie Courick. Shes the person I like to see delivering my news when I can be bothered to watch news casts, which honestly isn’t often. Robin, who lost her hair undergoing breast cancer treatment, stripped off her wig on this morning’s broadcast, and vowed it’s never coming back.
I so admire her strength and courage while going thru such a personal thing in such a public way. I can see how hard it is for her to take this step, the tremmor in her voice speaks not of fear to me – but of strength. And yes it is still one of the sexiest things a woman can do – embrace this type of change and tell the world that it still doesn’t define you. Congratulations again Robin on this step. You so rock.

Farrell - I didn’t see it but wow that takes balls.
My mom lost her hair a few years back – actually, about 8 years now – she has alopecia areata, as does my cousin – and she’s only let me see her with her wig off once or twice.
It’s so much easier for boys. My cousin David who has it is a handsome fella.

Sherri - I saw her take off her wig, and I wanted to give her a hug! And yeah, she looks great with tiny hair.

jaelithe - I think she looks awesome with short hair.

And excuse me, but she is SO not Katie Couric. Katie Couric has the authenticity and gravitas of a bowl of plastic fruit.

If only Robin Roberts and Ann Curry were co-hosts on the same show . . . *sigh* I can dream, can’t I?

pam - Here from Bossy and it must be I was meant to come here today. Gods ways and all. I’ve been thinking about this topic all day. I lost my hair two years ago from treatment and it’s grown back in very sparse. I’ve worn wigs and just recently had enough hair to get a weave. It hurts, is a giant pain in the ass and looks like shit! Wigs are hot and look like shit! What to do?
I’ve thought of shaving my head, dying the sparse blond locks darker to look like more hair instead of a patchy landscape. But I don’t have the nerve. I’m not that brave. Noone knows, but now you guys who read this. Thanks Robin for being SO FRICKIN brave and maybe letting me think, someday I can be to.
And now I sit here booin and hooin at work…

mommymae - robin looks gorgeous w/o the wig. i had a friend in high school who had cancer and she would wear a wig out and about, but would go bald in the company of her friends and family. a wonderful soul we all miss.

Caroline - Hiya honey… I linked to you from Bossy’s site, and just watched the Robin Roberts video, and am sitting here bawling my eyes out. What a fabulous, beautiful, brave woman! I especially love the end of the video, when the camera comes back to Robin and Diane on the sofa, but now they’re joined by the other fellows, and they’re all holding Robin’s hands, in such a sweet demonstration of support and friendship… oh, it took my breath away. Thanks so much for sharing this! I will be back. Any friend of Bossy’s has gotta be cool beans!

Zookeeper - I’m just finally catching up on this. Thank you so much for posting this video. What an amazing woman! I couldn’t help but tear up as I was watching. My brother-in-law recently passed away from cancer at 42 years young. My heart goes out to anyone whose life is affected by cancer. Thanks again for this post.
