Ah Internets, what can I tell you about how full the last seven days have been?
Last Thursday was a first for my immediate family, it was the first Thanksgiving that my mom or Grandmother didn’t host. It was held at my great Aunts house. And between plates of soul food ( I still can’t do Chitterlings) i watched my mom and Aunt do every imaginable shuffle and slide dance that was not done to country music in hte last ten year s- R Kelly aside.
Everytime I see that photo it makes me feel better.
As I mentioned on Friday morning – my sister went into labor and ultimately had a boucing baby girl. Thank you for the well wishes that you guys have sent, its such a different experience to finally be on the other side of the birth experience, and watch someone you love be a mom.
Shes my baby sister.
Its wild to see such a bright peice of her laying on her chest. Honestly I really didn’t have a choice in going to Philly or not. The ticket was *cough* expensive, but it was my sister. I had to go. And I love my husband cause he was like “Hey – just go – you need to be there, we’ll figure the rest out when you get back.”
So rather than help him host our Friday night Thanksgiving, I was skipping across the country to help my sister in her first days of motherhood.
And it was fun to be there and be able to talk about the stuff you feel and go through in the first days after giving birth. I tried to give her the space to figure things out on her own, and just be aavlible when she had questions and point out some things she may not have know to ask questions about. Breast feeding for instance – is a sticky thing to tackle, and I was glad my mom was there in the first days after Cammy was born to just point out a few simple things let me know that no my breast were not gonna fall off and yes it is normal to feel like this.
I spent my last few hours with them holding my niece soaking up the last hours I get to have with her until January. I’ve taken to calling her Niecey. She’s small and sweet. Reminds me of Bria, very calm, easy baby. Although she is not nearly the eater that Bri is. She makes this snorting noise due to swollen sinuses – my sister calls her Piggy, her dad calls her princess. He’s been waiting for her a long time so I am not surprised. You hold a baby and wish and pray for all the best things to happen to and for them. Whether she is mine or not, and she is mine in her own speical way.
I have a very special realtionship with my mom’s sister and hope Sophia and I can have our own special bond too.
After the conversation her father and I had on that whole Superman song thing, I think she’ll need me, but thats another post.
I flew home on Monday night – and while I hated to leave my sister – I missed my girls and they missed me too. My husband, the big ole teddy bear that he is made it clear that he was ready for me to come home while I was talking to him in the airport. In our entire relationship we’ve been seperated just three times. Although I think its good for us, cause sometimes you forget or take forgranted how much someone means to you until they simply aren’t there for what ever reason, even if it is only temporary.
My Bria seemed glad to see me in a not excited way but more of a “glad your back lady, don’t do it again” kinda way. Cammy was very glad to see me, and has said as much.
I’ve been a little lax on posting photos, and getting out and doing more photography, so that is my goal this week.
I’m not sure how the poetry is going over, and I’m not sure what to post next if I do post another poem, we shall see…
