Okay, this is what worked with my little biter: I shouted, "OUCH! NO!" the second I felt the beginning of a bite. Then I would push him away and refuse to nurse him. Then I would act like I was crying, and I would say, "You hurt mommy." Like, basically I made a big production of it. I know that some people say that it makes kids MORE likely to bite if you make a big deal out of it, but I found the opposite was true. I suppose it depends on your baby's personality, though. Isaac has always been really sensitive to other people's feelings so I think that is why this approach worked so well with him. Of course, this did not work on the first try-- I had to do it several times. And he would go through phases every few months where he would start biting again. Let me tell you, I sincerely vowed to stop nursing that kid at least 10 times after a bad bite. (And yet, I still nursed him until he was two. It was those brown eyes.
