Welcome

Hola! This is Raquita, and you've found my blog. I am a Photographer and I love my job, I get to watch people be in love everyday and they trust me to capture that love and I am grateful for the chance. I write poetry because because the love of my life deserve more than what we say everyday, and I want to tell them.

I beleive in romance and happy endings, and fairy tales, more so now that I have two daughters than I think I ever have. This all being said it should be no surprise that I am a little goofy, and a lot cheesy. I love chick flicks, poker, Greys Anatomy and Hoops and Yo Yo. I always root for the underdog, (GO Celtics!) I prefer sushi for dinner and waffles for breakfast. I am the resident WOBL-in-training around these parts. (W)ise (O)ld (B)lack (L)ady and I'm pretty much into flat out having a good time.

This blog has gone though a lot of changes now most notably merging my personal life with my business one. So you will find as much about what I think about the latest movies as well as my latest assignments. You will get to know my kids and my husband pretty well if you read often, and i love a good debate so please feel free to comment all the time. I have also gotten back into performing poetry as a hobby, so to those who got my card after a show please feel free to click the poetry button below for access to my work, and information. The wedding button will take you to my wedding slide show, the portraiture button to the portraiture slide show.

Today I remember

68730016I woke at 5 am slipped from under his arm and took the elevator to the main floor.
No one was awake but me and several of the locals working the early shift at the hotel. We’d been there a few days, I knew several by name, they stopped and smiled. Gave hearty greetings, asked if I was ready for the day. My smile was easy and my affirmative answer made a few guys laugh and note the nerves I wore and the fact that it was five in the morning. I brushed them off and headed to the beach to watch the sun make its accent into the sky, it was important to me to watch the day begin on what would actually be my wedding day.
So I did.
I sat in a hammock on the edge of a beach and watched the sun slide gracefully across the sky. I stayed there for a long time, and I prayed for a while, just talked to God for a while, let the waves kiss my toes and headed back.
In preparing myself mentally for being married, it was important to me that the wedding not be a large factor. For me - the goal was to be married to the right person. Marriage isn’t weddings and anniversaries, its not about the big things that mark your marriage, when you bought your house, when you had your childeren. Yes, those are all wonderful moments but for me its trips to the grocery store, and car pooling. Its picking up the kids - when you have them, and cutting grass, and making dinner.
Marriage is all the little things that happen between the big things. Its waking up everyday and saying I am in this with you. and I spent alot of time that morning ensuring I’d remember that before I went to put on my dress and sparkly shoes.
IMGP1146I ate breakfast alone at first then random members of my wedding party started popping up, I remember seeing my aunt and uncle. I remember passing my dad as he went towards the beach. I remember hiding around a corner avoiding Jerry. I remember heading up to my moms room to get ready, my mom fussing over the details. I remember my sister putting on her dress. I remember my dad coming to get me to walk me down.
68730001I remember asking him if he objected I needed to know, if he thought Jerry wasn’t the right man I needed to know now. He told me he would have said so before the plane, Jerry was the one.
I know what song they played, I know it cause I picked it out, I know I chatted with my dad and my mom before we made it down to the ceremony site, but I don’t remember any thing I said, I don’t remember the sound of the song, I only remember seeing Jerry and my family on a cliff near the beach as I walked with my dad to marry my best friend.

68730029And today I remember as much as I can. I can close my eyes and remember the sand, the taste of the air. His face, his smile. His voice when he said his vows, how easy it was to say I do.
Now three years later as we fight against the world to make the right choices for our childeren and each other, we push to live our dreams, I can stop easy and know that I would make the same choice again on that beach with ease and know that he has always been the man I am supposed to partner on this path I have been chosen to walk.

Jerry, you honor me everyday that you wake up and smile at me. When you pull me close I instantly feel safe, wanted and loved. I love how you care, that you care. You have grown into everything I never knew I always wanted, and everything I always said I wanted in a husband and father to my childeren.
Thank you for choosing to walk with me, for carrying me when I fall, for loving me through it all. I strive everyday to be for you everything you are to me.

Happy anniversary Cubby

Glenn Echoes Wedding

The bride wore a beautiful beaded gown, the groom was the picture of calm contentment. But the scene stealer all night was their daughter the flower girl who I’m sure ran away with a few hearts.

Bridesmaids wore pink, and it was held outdoors at a local golf club. lots of cute moments, the grooms dressing room was the size of a closet, the brides SUITE was well a suite..

Adam + Angela

They met three years at a party and hit it off. Then he was off to Japan.  She heard he was back, three years later, this time the timing worked, she was available, and hoping that the spark wasn’t a fluke she had her brother set up a little opportunity. It wasn’t. He told his friends about the nice girl who was his mentors sister, she didn’t discuss for fear of jinxing it all.

They were a lot of fun to shoot, Adam has this very man vibe about him, not boyish, not a guy, but very very man, and a lot of their banter and interaction was somewhat raw and basic. Angela does the coy confident girl really well. I love couples who are really into what we are doing and want to be involved. Not afraid to say what they’d like to try, I got a happy trigger finger and a zillion CF cards, as I like to say BRING IT!  It was wonderful to shoot.

In the end I think they are just adorable. This isn’t a engagement session, but I don’t think it has to be. I think more couples should take the time to record their affection. And I’m honored that Adam and Angela let me document theirs.

I’m Baaaaaak… sort of

2547663966_95211848e0_m Im Baaaaaak... sort of busy busy busy.

This whole business thing is heavy people. But things are coming along. I am much more confident with my sticks than I expected to be. I remember more than I thought I would. I like it as much as I remember, possibly more. I’m booking fairly well. Better than I expected, I’d like to be book 3/4 into next year… Alas a girl can dream. I’m currently redeveloping the main site, the blog in gonna go through an over haul here in the next weeks. I’ve gathered all the little pieces so I can really do this thing in a way that makes me feel like I can be successful, and thorough and really enjoy what I have gotten my self into.

It feels good. There needs to be another 48 hours in a day - i could use at least a spare eight. but other wise this is all coming together one peice at a time.

My family has been amazing. My husband has

Tom + Courtney

They are the kind of couple you are glad to see. Bright eyed and excited about being in love and living their life together. Watching him look at her made me want to go home and love on Jerry. Tom and Jerry have a love of making homemade ice cream in common, and they don’t live too far from us. Which is sweet. Courtney and I have a thing for crafts although shes way more crafty than I am I think - which is a feat for any human. But I think for Courtney shes a ball of great energy.

They met through friends (who are marrying this week- Congrats!) and tend to compliment each other with out really trying. My favorite couples to shoot are the ones who make me think everything could be okay in our world.  Courtney and Tom so rank up there.

We took a little walk around one of St. Louis more charming neighborhoods Lafayette Square. They have such great doors. They wore black so we were looking for color to surround them. I think we found some pretty good ones.

So here are a few images from our session.
