It has been an eventful few days – my birthday went very well. My bestest buddies Renata and Spoken took me (which includes the hubby), and my sister out to dinner to one of my favorite restaraunts the Melting Pot. Which the fact that they brought my sister too – well that totally Rocked! With her husband far away sporadically with work- it was really important to me that she get out of the house and enjoy herself a little. Most people wonder why I like the Melting Pot, well number one – I can’t do it at home, not well – not yet, and its nice to have something I can’t recreate at home, because honestly – there isn’t much that I can’t make a pretty decent knock off of. And they make the best drinks – although I can’t really partake – so I don’t want to go back to the melting pot until I can have a drink – but it was great to go to a grown up place and enjoy my grown up friends. Good lobster, really good chicken – Who knows what they did to it!?!? great steak, and chocolate – big pots of chocolate, and the best people, my mom even stopped by to hang with us for a while. and brought a card from my Granny that TOTALLY made my day. It was the last good night I was going to enjoy for a little while.
The next morning, I was sick – as a dog – I threw up water – I threw up air – I threw up for several hours that morning, threw up anything I thought about eating, though up anything I tried to eat, and trucked on to work anyway. I had mentioned to Jerry that the baby hadn’t been moving nearly as much as previously – and that coupled with the excessive regurgiation sent my husband into action. I went to work, as usual, to a new training class I really didn’t want to miss. Hubby however made the calls to the Dr.’s office and explained my day and they insisted that I go to the St. Johns Womens Evaluation center aka the pregnant chick emergency room, NOW.
So we did.
And that made for a long day – Lots of testing and monitoring, and testing and monitoring. Which, with much hilarity, made this baby that much more real to me.
I went home after all that to spend an evening – sick still. nothing would make the nausea stop. I was off work luckily Friday and woke with a KILLER tooth ache, so I spent most of the day trying to forget I was hurting – and again slept like ’sleep? whats that?’ and promptly at eight AM Saturday I made the call to an emergency dentist and had that tooth YANKED out of my head. Perhaps a little drastic, however – I am in way less pain than I was – although I hurt more in the spot where they put the novacane than I do where they took the tooth out. I ended up sleeping alot of Saturday away as I hadn’t done much sleeping before.
*Quick story – Sunday morning Cammy and I got up to get her dressed for church, Which we did quickly and with out much haste. She was half watching TV with me once dressed, and half watching TV. I happened across the tsunami movie on HBO and it seemed far enough into the movie that hte big waves had passed and I could watch the remaining movie with out causing undo fear on my child. However I was worng, After about five minutes of what i thought was possibly a flash back, or a dad watching a video of his kid, it turns out he was taping his child as the wave was coming.
SOOOOO not a flash back.
unable to tear myself, or my kid apparently, away from the screen we watched the waters rip the child from his arms before I could get the channel changed andthe TV off.
my child turned to me, both of us stunned and silent, she said to me “She lost her daddy. Mommy, I am scared.” My only reaction was a “Me too.” I promptly picked her up and she gripped me pretty good, and when her next request was for her daddy I was quite okay with that, so we ran back to cuddle with the daddy.
The thing about movies is, in some moments it makes no difference how unreal you know they are…
So in addition to that I baptized my husband sunday afternoon.
yeah. I really did.
didn’t know I could do that did you? Its just a fill in until we join a church we actually plan on attending. but I’ve been an ordained minister since about 2000, i was supposed to performa friends wedding, but they broke up and i lost touch with them and I never got to actually perform anything. It was actually very sweet, once we got the silly out of our system before we started. The internet will allow you to do anything.
So It was a long eventful weekend. Now I need a nap.
*but on the up – tomorrow April 17th is free Ice Cream day at Ben and Jerrys. If there is a store near you go get a free cone.
**my most sincere sympathy to the families and students at Virgina Tech. As some one nto far removed from the College campus experience, I can only imagine the fear of being a student trapped on campus in a situation like that and now as a mom, I can understand the instant terror parents feel when they hear anything like this. Whether your child is there or not.

Hey, I am sick too. Not throwing up, though. Just got a sore throat bad enough I can barely talk. Which causes problems when I am trying to say, “Isaac, don’t touch that.”
I hope you keep feeling better.
Take care, hope you are feeling better soon. What sort of melting pot has lobster? We went to one in seattle and it was quite the horrid experience, just hunks of raw meat on sticks and a kettle of oil. Your melting pot sounds much much nicer.
Eeek. SO sorry to hear you’ve been feeling like poo.
And yes, that scene would have freaked out my kiddo as well.
Plus? I had no idea about free ice cream day. That would have made it a MUCH better day.
Hey glad you had fun at your birthday dinner and yes I knew about free ice cream day. The line was too long when I drove past the loop. So me and the kids went to the CWE and had a good ol time eating ice cream. Ky was so excited. He was all like I saw this place on the TV with the crazy man (Tim Izzel, I think that is how his na,e is spelled). HA HA
Aries…..stand UP!
I hope that you are feeling better sis….
watching a movie like that and after what happened at VT….im hugging everyone a little tighter.
Birthday dinner sounded very nice…I love the Melting Pot!
Sorry you were feeling poopy for a while there. Nausea and toothaches are two of the worst pains in the world!
Yeah, I always know those movies are fake, but when it’s based on real events, I always get freaked out. What can I say?
I missed “Free Cone” day, but I know it exists…I love me some ice cream!
