weekend roundup

So. Spring has sprung - sort of in a - it is st louis andifyoublinkitwillbesnowingagainsopleasebyallthathisgoodandholydon’tblink kinda way. We had a very busy weekend but it was good too. Cammy went to the park and to swim with her GiGi at the Ritz hotel. Which was where my mom had her birthday party.. that is a paragraph unto its self.

Lets write it shall we?

So birthdays are a plentiful thing in my family. Everyone’s birthday is in April, sans my brother who is too close to Christmas for it to really be a blessing to not be born in April. My mother is first. For the last few years we have been saying we as a family aren’t gonna do Christmas cause we don’t want to have to buy for everybody at one time.. forgetting of course that since everybodys birthday is in April - you end up buying for everybody at one time anyway. So we did the very very light Christmas, and then my mom - who’s birthday is first in the April birthdays wanted to have a party - much in the same vein as Spokens party (only not at my house). Spoken and my mom are really very very much alike. So this clearly is the year of the kick butt party cause my moms party was off the micky flicky chain too.

every other year or so she has this gathering at the Ritz. They have a blues band that plays in the lobby. So she sends out notice that shes gonna be there, gets a room or suite and sets up some hors d’oeuvres, passes out cake to strangers and its a party! And really thats exactly what happened. Cammy - doesn’t do loud noises - so I may even be saved from Hanna Montana concerts, she loves to dance but hates the loud noise. Bri made quite the splash. There was this grandfatherly older man who wanted to dance with her and took her for a spin around the dance floor. He said he missed his grandchildren. he was very sweet. (we were never farther than five feet away) we gave my mom a membership to the Art Museum, and her grand-babies gave her knives cause she tried to pull a jack move on my knife at Easter. She took Cammy swiming in the hotel pool, and Cammy picked a few flowers from the yard to take to Gigi, with the biggest smile I have seen on her face yet.

I’ve been offering my services for wedding photography and I’ve gotten a lot of takers but had to turn down a few cause they all are getting married on May 31st. Whats up with that?!?!! like at the same time of day and everything! It totally sucks. but I have a engagement session coming up and a few kids sessions so hopefully I’ll have enough stuff to really beef up my portfolio and get some new equipment from.

I watch alot of sports with the hubby, he and Cam have been to Baseball games this year already, he with his job and once with Cammy - just some daddy daughter time. Sports note - I think the cards are gonna be pretty decent this year.. maybe take second - MAYBE. We’ll see.

we watched the final four Jayhawk/Tar Heels game. funny - I am a Mizzou person, it must be said - so naturally I have an aversion to the Jayhawks. Jerry and I sat down to watch the game and before it started he said, “I chose the Tar Heels, Jayhawks can’t handle yada yada yada” I said immediately - “Dude I would have picked Kansas if I were you, the Jayhawks can win this and you know I hate to admit that.” in the first five minutes he was like - “dude, I guess you were right.” I have never seen a team just get so totally just out GUNNED. Like really just out gunned. I don’t admit to liking Jayhawks ever (what the hell IS a jayhawk anyway?!!) but they helped me be right so that will be my only joy from the Jayhwaks…

I don’t usually cosign gossip but five of my most used ringtones on my phone are Beyonce so.. Congrats to Beyonce and Jay-Z on their rumored marriage. Jerry and I talked about the whole thing and the whole Jay-Z Rhianna triangle thing that is speculated. And in the words of my husband, “Rhianna is a girl. a nice young lady. She cute and everything but Beyonce, is a woman. Once you go woman you can’t go back to girl.” I certainly hope that they can be the exception to the Hollywood marriage story and make it last.

I’m a photo geek so this made me a little sad - Polaroid is stopping the instant film line - so now I want to go buy as much instant film as I can. so my kid can have that joy or waiting for her pictures to fade in. It was alot of fun for me, and I think its sad.

Jerry swears Bri said her first word this weekend - Yes. Which would be a nice change of pace a child who says yes.

Cammy and I saw Horton AGAIN. We like Horton. Cammy has taken to quoting parts of the movie. When we are arriving she chants “We re here, we are here, we are here!” in grand who fashion. She calls people boobs. Which I find charming. Her teachers may *ahem* not.

Bri has decided that she is one of the girls and is not to be left in the care of daddy whilst sister and mommy do anyting. shes okay if one of us leaves, mommy or sister, but we can’t both leave and definately not together. Oh no.

mocha momma found x365 and I think I will do a version of this at the end of my blog posts. It will keep me writing and on top of the things that are most important to me, my peoples baby!

Mom - my mom is the kind of woman who charms a room. Instantly. When she is on, watch out. So when my aunt once told me - “You remind me of your mother when she was young before life happened to her.” and Jerry told me - “when your mom is happy and on and in her element she is oneof the most charming women ever. You have alot of your mothers best traits.” I was awed by the idea. My mom makes me feel like if I can be a quarter of the person she sees in me, and raise my girls half as well as she says I do, well, I just couldn’t say how glad I would be of my humanity.

I got this from Wikipedia: “The Jayhawk is a cross between two common birds — the noisy blue jay and the quiet sparrow hawk.” Paraphrasing the article, When Kansas, during the Civil War became a free state, an abolitionist was known as a Jayhawker to Missourians (and others) , who were not yet willing to embrace the principles behind a free state. The term Jayhawker stuck and was shortened to Jayhawk and was adopted as the school mascot when it was established in (I believe, but am too lazy to look up) 1865. It’s a bird that doesn’t exist. Except in cartoon form.

Sounds like a blast at your mom’s party.

I’ve been getting more interested in photography the last few weeks, studying pictures and there was a great series on cable last week about the origins of photography that was absolutely fascinating. I have a pretty decent digital camera and would like to learn more about how to use it better and what equipment I might need to become a better photographer. Do you have any book recommendations or maybe websites that you’ve found to be helpful?
