On sunday morning our phone rang- just around nine a.m. I took one look at the caller ID and said, “Well, looks like they are in labor.”
One of Jerry’s best friend Chris, and his wife, Becca called to let us know they had been at the hospital for a while, and wanted to request a video run. We did one better and brought the dad breakfast and about ten movies to watch while mom worked it on out, and after thirteen hours of offical labor – although I think she should be inducted to the twenty hour club cause they started having contractions at six p.m a full eight hours before they went to the hospital at three a.m. I say that time counts.
But Becca is such a small girl, I am so glad she had him with out a c-section. he was 6lbs 15 oz. and jsut as vocal as I imagine his toddler years to be.
it was so nice to be on the supporting side of a birth. We watched football and waited for the good news, I tried to comfort the grandmother – she was worried about everything. And its nice to know nobodys mom trusts the doctor their daughter picks, even when they show up sober. They question every decision you make, “She should have just skipped the epidural it would be over by now!!!” And it reminded me how every birth is different, and no matter what your family says about wanting to be on the outside during hte birth, they don’t mean it. Her mom wanted to be in there so bad. It made me glad I let all of my family in for Cammys birth. But Becca and I are like night and day. We really are polar opposites.
I wonder what kind of mom she wll be. Anyway we then waited for the family to ohh and ahh, then went and got dinner for dad, then went home to get our little muchkin and left them to the joys of new parenting.
Welcome to the world Elijah Christopher James!
